The digital release of Bhool Chuk Maaf, starring Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi, has been temporarily halted by the Bombay High Court. The decision comes after a legal dispute with multiplex giant PVR INOX, which accused the makers—Maddock Films—of violating their agreement by skipping the planned theatrical release.
Originally set for a theatrical launch, the film was instead announced for a direct OTT premiere on May 16. This move prompted PVR INOX to file a lawsuit seeking Rs 60 crore in damages, citing a breach of the agreed 8-week theatrical window.

Responding to the situation, the Bombay High Court granted an ad interim injunction, effectively blocking the film’s OTT release until the next hearing, scheduled for June 16, 2025. The court noted that Maddock Films’ cancellation of the theatrical release due to security and commercial concerns went against their contractual obligations.
Maddock Films, in partnership with Amazon MGM Studios, previously issued a statement explaining their decision. They mentioned the heightened national security environment as the reason for going straight to digital, emphasizing the importance of public safety over commercial plans.
Alongside Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi, the film features a talented ensemble cast including Seema Pahwa, Sanjay Mishra, Zakir Hussain, Raghubir Yadav, and Jay Thakkar.
For now, eager viewers will have to wait until the court’s next ruling to find out when Bhool Chuk Maaf will finally be available to watch.
